On 13 April 2024, the Royal Thai Embassy in Dili together with the Thai community in Timor-Leste organized a celebration of “Songkran Festival” (Thai New Year) at the Embassy to uphold the tradition and strengthen unity among the Thai community in Timor-Leste. The “Songkran in Thailand, traditional Thai New Year festival” has also been inscripted by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage in December 2023.  The celebration was presided by H.E. Mr. Atipat Rojanapaibulya, Ambassador of Thailand, and his spouse, along with Mrs. Kannika Koedduaythong as a representative of the Thai community and joined by over 30 Thai community members and their families.  Activities included the ritual of pouring water over a Buddha statue for auspiciousness, traditional water-pouring ceremony (Rod Nam Dam Hua) and luncheon.

This event reflected the close cooperation between the Embassy and the Thai community as well as friendship among the Thais in Timor-Leste.
