On 17 November 2025 at the Government House, Mr. Nikorndej Balankura, Director-General of the Department of Information and Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, together with Mr. Siripong Angkasakulkiat, Government Spokesperson, Rear Admiral Surasant Kongsiri, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Defence, Major General Winthai Suvaree, Spokesperson of the Royal Thai Army, Police Major General Siriwat Deepo, Deputy Spokesperson of the Royal Thai Police, and Ms. Chotima Iemsawasdikul, Director-General of the Department of Trade Negotiations, Ministry of Commerce, gave a Press Conference on the Thailand – Cambodia border situation. They were joined by representatives of the Royal Thai Armed Forces Headquarters, Royal Thai Navy, and Royal Thai Air Force.
The Director-General and Spokesperson shared updates on the actions taken by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the two latest incidents, namely the landmine incident at Huai Thamariya, Si Sa Ket province on 10 November 2025, and the clash initiated by Cambodian forces at Ban Nong Ya Kaew, Sa Kaeo Province, on 12 November 2025, which are considered violations of the Joint Declaration between Thailand and Cambodia. Protests have been made to the Cambodian side on both incidents. The Prime Minister has written to, and held several phone conversations with, the President of the United States and the Prime Minister of Malaysia, as witnesses to the Joint Declaration, to reaffirm Thailand’s peaceful approach and positions. The Director-General also outlined other actions being undertaken, including under the framework of the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban (Ottawa) Convention, and protest letters to the United Nations Secretary-General and the President of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). In Thailand, the Ministry has organised various briefings for the diplomatic corps and international organisations representatives as well as regular press briefings for Thai and foreign media, while Thai Embassies and Consulates-General worldwide are reaching out in their host countries. Thailand will continue to pursue proactive diplomacy, using all possible channels to provide the facts and Thailand’s stance on the situation, including in upcoming key international engagements.
