During 11–13 May 2026, a delegation of experts from the Faculty of Medicine, Ramathibodi Hospital, Mahidol University, comprising Associate Professor Surasak Kantachuvesiri, Director of Kidney Transplantation Program and Excellence Center for Organ Transplantation; Assistant Professor Suchin Worawichawong, Chief of Nephropathology and Uropathology, and Deputy Dean for International Relations; and Ms. Wilaiporn Arkabutra, Hemodialysis Nurse, visited Timor-Leste to conduct an assessment for trilateral cooperation between Thailand, through the Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA) and the Royal Thai Embassy in Dili; Timor-Leste, through the Ministry of Health and Hospital Nacional Guido Valadares (HNGV); and the World Health Organization (WHO) in Timor-Leste.
On this occasion, the delegation paid a courtesy call on H.E. Dr. Flávio Brandão Mendes de Araújo, Vice Minister for Hospital Operationalization, and held discussions with senior officials from the Ministry of Health and the management of HNGV. The delegation also visited the hemodialysis unit and engaged in technical discussions with nephrologists, as well as medical specialists from related fields, to assess the current capacity and challenges in nephrology services in Timor-Leste, in order to develop a support plan aimed at strengthening nephrology services at HNGV, with a particular focus on capacity building for doctors, nurses, and technicians, to enhance the quality, standards, and accessibility of nephrology care in Timor-Leste.
