On 6 March 2024, H.E. Mr. Atipat Rojanapaibulya, Ambassador of Thailand to Timor-Leste, presented the Letters of Credence to H.E. Mr. José Ramos-Horta, President of Timor-Leste at the Presidential Palace.
On this occasion, the President José Ramos-Horta underscored the cordial relationship between the two countries as well as Thailand’s assistance to Timor-Leste in various fields even prior to its independence on 20 May 2002. The President also expressed interest in a visit to Thailand at an appropriate time by either himself or the Prime Minister of Timor-Leste to further strengthen bilateral ties.
The Ambassador of Thailand congratulated Timor-Leste on its accession as the newest member of the World Trade Organization and expressed Thailand's readiness to support the capacity building of Timorese officials in areas essential for national development and for Timor-Leste's preparation for full membership of ASEAN.
This year the Royal Thai Embassy will collaborate with Thailand’s Neighbouring Countries Economic Development Cooperation Agency (NEDA) and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) to upgrade two BEMONC centers in Baucau and revise the midwifery curriculum in Timor-Leste. In addition, technical assistance will be provided on value-added tax and the establishment of national development bank, as well as a study visit in Thailand on coffee industry development. The Ambassador viewed that the close cooperation between the two countries will help improve quality of life of the Timorese people.
