On 14 February 2024, H.E. Mr. Atipat Rojanapaibulya, Ambassador-Designate of Thailand, along with officials of the Royal Thai Embassy in Dili, visited Escola Básica Central (EBC) Sao Jose Baguia School in Baguia. It is one of the six schools under the Collaborative Project on Children and Youth Development in Timor-Leste under the Patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. In addition, in 2017, Mrs. Leopoldina Joana Guterres, Headmaster, also received the Princess Maha Chakri Award (PMCA) – an award given to outstanding teachers of 11 countries in Southeast Asia who have made a significant impact on students’ lives.

The Ambassador-Designate handed over Thai rice and other staples to the school and exchanged views with the teachers about the current challenges as well as potential additional supports. He also informed the school that the headmasters from six schools under the Collaborative Project will be invited to Dili in March or April this year to attend an online meeting with the Office of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’s Projects to provide updates on their respective schools and discuss the way forward.

The Ambassador-Designated and officials from the Royal Thai Embassy received a very warm welcome by the students and teachers of the school. Mr. Celestino Guterres, Deputy Headmaster, expressed his deep gratitude for the support of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn of Thailand.
