Ambassador of Thailand pays a courtesy call on the Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste

On 19 March 2024, H.E. Mr. Atipat Rojanapaibulya, Ambassador to Thailand to Timor-Leste, paid a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, at the Government Palace, on the occasion of his assumption of duty.

Having had the opportunities to visit Thailand several times as President and Prime Minister of Timor-Leste, Prime Minister Gusmão expressed his fond memories and positive impressions of the country. Both sides exchanged views on promoting bilateral relations, especially capacity-building cooperation to support Timor-Leste’s preparation for ASEAN membership and economic development. The Ambassador of Thailand highlighted key collaboration projects to be conducted this year. These include the upgrade of two Basic Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care Centers (BEMONC) in Quelicai and Baguia of the Baucau Municipality, with expected completion by the end of this year, the revision of midwifery curriculum and technical assistance on value-added tax, the establishment of national development bank as well as coffee industry development. The Prime Minister expressed his gratitude for Thailand’s continued solidarity and assistance extended to Timor-Leste, noting that the establishment of a development bank will provide opportunities for local SMEs to access funding. He will seek an appropriate opportunity to visit Thailand during this year or next.

In addition, both sides also discussed important developments in ASEAN and regional cooperation. The Prime Minister shared his experiences and views on resolving conflicts in the region. He reiterated the government’s commitment to undertaking necessary actions in accordance with the roadmap for ASEAN membership.
