On 26 March 26 2024, H.E. Mr. Atipat Rojanapaibulya, Ambassador of Thailand to Timor-Leste, paid a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Bendito dos Santos Freitas, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Timor-Leste, on the occasion of his assumption of duty.

Both sides exchanged views on strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries, building on the strong foundation established since Thailand’s participation in the peacekeeping operation until after Timor-Leste gained independence in 2002, and continuing through to the present as Timor-Leste prepares to become a full membership of ASEAN. The Ambassador of Thailand expressed his readiness to enhance capacity-building programs for Timorese officials. The Minister expressed his appreciation for Thailand’s continued support in human development and capacity building, which has made a positive contribution to the development of Timor-Leste. He mentioned his impressions of Thailand when he accompanied the Prime Minister of Timor-Leste to visit the country in 2013 and his recent meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand during the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit in Melbourne earlier this month. He also expressed his interest in visiting Thailand again in the near future, with a view to strengthening and broadening bilateral cooperation, including in trade and investment.
