Workshop on alternative duck feed using household and agricultural waste

On 27 August 2024, the Royal Thai Embassy in Dili organised a practical workshop on alternative duck feed using household and agricultural waste. Ms. Waranya Chanthapun, Counsellor, represented the Embassy’s at this event which was supported by three instructors, namely Mr. Salvador Saldanha R. Ribeiro, Chief of the Department of Agricultural Extension; Ms. Gabriela Moniz da Silva, Livestock Technician from the Dili Municipality Administration; and Mr. Jeronimo Gouveia, Livestock Technician from the Liquiça Municipality Administration. Participants of the workshop comprised 30 members of the Ediri School’s students and parent-teacher association.

This activity is part of the Embassy’s ongoing project to promote the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy (SEP) and its application in Timor-Leste. Since September 2023, the Embassy has been working closely with the Ediri School in Maubara, Liquiça Municipality, to apply the principles of SEP to its school garden programme, with the aim of enhancing food security, improving student nutrition, and providing a source of income for the community from surplus produce. The project emphasises the importance of community engagement and a sense of ownership to ensure its long-term sustainability.
