On 8 September 2025, H.E. Mr. Mariano Assanami Sabino Lopes, Vice Prime Minister, Coordinating Minister for Social Affairs, and Minister of Rural Development and Community Housing of Timor-Leste, visited the Asia-Pacific Development Center on Disability (APCD) in Bangkok as part of his study visit to Thailand during 7-11 September 2025.

He was warmly welcomed by Dr. Tej Bunnag, President of the APCD Foundation, and Mr. Piroon Laismit, Executive Director of the APCD, who introduced the Center’s mission and activities. The APCD serves as a regional hub to promote empowerment, inclusion, and capacity building of persons with disabilities, working closely with governments, civil society, and international organizations across the Asia-Pacific region.

During the visit, both sides exchanged views and experiences on initiatives and programs designed to strengthen social participation and improve the quality of life of people with disabilities. The Timorese Vice Prime Minister and his accompanying delegation also joined an interactive baking workshop led by the APCD staff with disabilities, which showcased the Center’s practical approach to vocational training and skills development.
