On 13 June 2026, the Royal Thai Embassy in Dili, in collaboration with the Alumni Association of Timorese Students in Thailand (AATST), organized a volunteer activity to raise awareness of internet safety and, together with Maluk Timor, conducted Rheumatic Heart Disease (RHD) screening at Escola Secundária Técnica Vocational – Grupo de Tecnologia e Indústria (ESTV-GTI) Becora in Dili. The activity was attended by almost 100 participants, including students, teachers, school administrators, as well as representatives of AATST and Maluk Timor.
H.E. Mr. Atipat Rojanapaibulya, Ambassador of Thailand to Timor-Leste, presided over the activity. In his opening remarks, he commended AATST, which was officially launched in September 2025, for transforming from an alumni network into a platform for social and community service activities. The Ambassador noted that AATST’s collaboration with Maluk Timor in initiating the RHD screening activity for students reflected how the knowledge, skills, and connections gained through education can be translated into meaningful actions that benefit the wider community. In addition, the Ambassador joined an interactive discussion with participants on safe internet use, exchanging views on how young people can navigate the digital environment responsibly and protect themselves from online risks.
Thailand has continuously contributed to the human resource development of Timor-Leste through scholarships and training programmes. It is hoped that beneficiaries of these opportunities will continue to contribute to the development of Timor-Leste and serve as agents of positive change within their communities. The event also reflected the role of AATST in strengthening people-to-people ties between Thailand and Timor-Leste.
