Requirements for foreigners travelling to Thailand during  COVID-19 travel restriction

Non-Thai national must have a health insurance which covers all Covid-19 related medical expenses in Thailand, with a minimum of USD 50,000 for the total duration of stay in Thailand.

Requirements for the Phuket Sandbox from 1 October 2021

 

A) All non-Thai passengers from Timor-Leste will be subject to 7 - 10 night quarantine at their own expenses at one of the facilities for Alternative Quarantine (AQ) that have been approved by the Thai authorities. For those fully vaccinated will be subject to 7 night quarantine. And those who haven't been fully vaccinated will be subject to 10 night quarantine. Children traveling with parents fully vaccinated are all subject to 7 night quarantine.

B) Booking for AQ hotels for quarantine can be made directly with the hotel of your choice or conveniently done through the websites below:

C) If you meet the requirements below, you can apply for the Certificate of Entry (COE) through the online system at https://coethailand.mfa.go.th/

General requirements to go to Thailand

  1. Valid visa or re-entry permit, except visitors under the 30-day visa exemption scheme
  2. The Certificate of Entry, please apply online only at http://coethailand.mfa.go.th . Please allow 6 working days to complete the process (3 days for the first step and 3 days for the second step). Please apply at least 2 weeks before traveling. Please have all documents in no. 1, 4 and 5 ready before applying.
  3. COVID-19 test result with a laboratory result indicating that COVID -19 is not detected (COVID test must be by RT-PCR method), issued within 72 hours before departure. From 1 April 2021, Fit to Fly health certificate will no longer be required to go to Thailand. Other things remain the same.
  4. Copy of insurance policy which covers COVID and no less than 100,000 USD – please print the insurance certificate and all pages of the terms and conditions on the COVID coverage and medical benefits.
  5. Copy of confirmed AQ hotel booking.

Additional requirements for certain types of visitors

For tourism purposes

Tourists can apply for single entry tourist visa (single entry only for stay up to 60 days) and special tourist visa (for stay up to 90 days) at www.thaievisa.go.th.  Currently, the multiple entry tourist visa (6 months) are currently suspended and the Embassy is not allowed to issue it.

Required documents :

Tourist visa (single entry): for stay up to 60 days with possible one-time extension of 30 days)

Your passport copy

Travel booking confirmation

Proof of accommodation in Thailand e.g. hotel booking, invitation letter from family or friend in Thailand

Bank statements with sufficient fund to cover your trip to Thailand

Confirmation of legal residence in Timor-Leste

Copy of health insurance policy which covers COVID-19 related medical expenses in Thailand no less than 100,000 USD for the whole period of your stay in Thailand

Special Tourist Visa (STV): for stay up to 90 days with possible extension of 90 days twice)

Travel booking confirmation

Proof of accommodation in Thailand for (1) AQ hotel booking for quarantine with proof of payment, and (2) confirmed hotel booking/accommodation rental for the remaining period of your stay in Thailand

For other purposes

Visitors who wish to visit Thailand for other purposes than tourism and need to apply for the Certificate of Entry must have valid non-immigrant visa or re-entry permit.

Required documents for the Certificate of Entry (apart from visa or re-entry permit) :

  1. For work (diplomats and officials of international organisations, work permit holders or those with permission to work in Thailand including volunteer work, and their family members (spouse and children below 20 years old, with proof of relationship (marriage certificate / birth certificate))

           - Note verbale from respective embassies and international organisation; or

           - Copy of work permit, or WP3, or employment letter

  1. For short term stay (foreigners who are going for a business trip in Thailand)

           - Copy of invitation letter to attend business meeting in Thailand from a Thai government agency or a Thai company

           - Copy of letter from your employer (or yourself if you own a company) to confirm your employment and that you need to attend business meetings in Thailand

           - Copy of bank statement

  1. For family : spouse and children of Thai nationals

           - Copy of marriage certificate and Thai ID or Thai passport of your spouse; or

           - Copy of birth certificate and Thai passport of your child

  1. For education (only formal education) and training (arranged by government agencies, state enterprises or international organisations)

           - Copy of enrolment letter or acceptance letter

  1. Sport tournaments

           - Copy of letter from event organisers or relevant Thai authorities

  1. Transit passengers

           - Passengers transiting to other destinations outside of Thailand can transit only at Suvarnabhumi International Airport for no more than 12 hours. Their flights must be checked through as they will not be allowed outside of the transit areas to get their luggage for re check-in. The COE is not required but they must have (1) Medical certificate with a laboratory result indicating that COVID-19 is not detected (done by RT-PCR technique and issued no more than 72 hours before travelling) and (2) travel health insurance (worldwide or including Thailand) covering health care and treatment expenses for COVID-19 disease, or any other guarantee throughout their stay in the Kingdom, with a coverage of no less than 100,000 USD.            - Transit passengers who need to stop over in Bangkok must have the COE and other requirements in the same way as tourists.

           - Passengers arriving in Bangkok must complete their mandatory quarantine in Bangkok before they can transit to other domestic destinations.

**One patient is allowed a maximum of 3 accompanying persons who must be quarantined at the same hospital as the patient and the period of their stay in Thailand needs to be at least 14 days**

[1] Thailand Elite Member should contact Thailand Privilege Card Co., Ltd to check eligibility to enter Thailand. Thai Embassy/Consulate-General will issued COE to a person whose named is in a list submitted by Thailand Privilege Card Co., Ltd., Ministry of Tourism and Sports or relevant government agencies.

[2] APEC Card holder must travel from a member economy where he/she holds citizenship (eligible member economies: Australia, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan and Vietnam), and is permitted to stay in Thailand for 90 days.

[3] The applicant must be a foreigner age of 50 and over who have a permanent residence in a country in which the application is submitted. Holder of Non-Immigrant O-A visa is allowed to stay in Thailand for 1 year. Employment of any kind is strictly prohibited.

[4] The applicant must be an ordinary passport holder with a nationality of Japan, Australia, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Canada, and the United States of America, with the age of 50 years old and over, including spouse and child (age under 20 years old). Holder of Non-Immigrant O-X visa is allowed to stay in Thailand for 5 years each time (total 10 years). Employment of any kind is strictly prohibited.

[5] Tourist Visa (TR) holder is permitted to stay in Thailand for 60 days and can apply for a 30-day extension.

[6] A non-Immigrant B visa holder is permitted to stay in Thailand for 90 days. Applicant must have an invitation letter from a Thai company with a registered capital not less than 2 million THB or evidence showing ownership of a condominium/ deposit in a Thai bank/ Thai government bond with face value not less than 3 million THB.

[7] Applicant for STV must reside in the country with a low-rate of confirmed COVID-19 cases as determined fortnightly and officially by Announcement of the Ministry of Public Health of Thailand. STV visa holder is allowed to stay in Thailand for 90 days and the STV can be extended 2 times, 90 days each.
