On 24 September 2026, H.E. Mr. Atipat Rojanapaibulya, Ambassador of Thailand to Timor-Leste, together with the Embassy’s officials, attended the screening of the Thai film “Ta Khon”, which was the first preview film of the Dili International Film Festival (DIFF) 2026. Subsequently, on 3 October 2026, representatives of the Embassy and the Thai community in Timor-Leste took part in the screening of “9 Temples to Heaven,” another Thai film selected to be screened at DIFF 2026, which is also Thailand’s official submission for the Best International Feature Film at the 99th Academy Awards. On this occasion, the Ambassador of Thailand also hosted a luncheon at his Residence in honour of the film's director, Mr. Sompot Chidgasornpongse. In addition to the two aforementioned feature films, The DIFF 2026 presented three Thai short films as part of the festival's program as well.

The Royal Thai Embassy has provided continuous support to the DIFF organizer in bringing Thai films and related professionals to the festival. This endeavor was well-received by the Timorese people and the diplomatic corps in Dili. It also successfully utilized cinematic soft power as a bridge to strengthen people-to-people ties — a crucial foundation of relations between Thailand and Timor-Leste.
