On August 11, 2023, the ASEAN embassies in Dili (Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines and Thailand) jointly celebrated on the 56th anniversary of the founding of ASEAN, held at the Embassy of the Philippines. With support from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Timor-Leste. The event started with the ASEAN flag raising ceremony, opening of the ASEAN anthem and the Timorese national anthem followed by speech of the Indonesian Ambassador as the dean of ASEAN diplomatic missions in Dili. H.E.Dr. Jose Ramos Horta, President of Timor-Leste invited as guest of honor and gave a speech on this auspicious occasion. Timorese government leaders and high-ranking officials attended the event, including Prime Minister H.E. Mr. Xanana Gusmao, Deputy Prime Minister H.E. Mr. Francisco Kalbuadi Lay, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation H.E. Mr. Bendito dos Santos Freitas, and Deputy Foreign Minister for ASEAN affairs H.E. Ms. Milena Rangel as well as 150 dignitaries from the diplomatic corps, international organizations and the medias in Dili also attended the event.
